The Beach belongs to everyone

We want Long Island to be a place where this, and the next generation can surf, windsurf, sail, swim, sunbathe, fish, kayak or just soak in Long Island's Natural Beauty.

Long Island is losing its waterfront and wet lands to private homes at an alarming pace. Beach Access is disappearing right along with it. In addition, many NYS laws concerning Beach Access are archaic at best.

It is not LIBAG's intent to take away any existing rights of NYS Beach users. Only to add to them.

We are fortunate, to be working with the Long Island Regional State Parks Commission towards solutions that would allow all beach user groups equal access to all NYS Parks Beaches, with out excluding or taking away any access rights from any user groups.

The Long Island Beach Access Group is most commonly known for its four core programs;

1- The Beach Access program whose research and advocacy programs support the maintenance and expansion of access to those remote beach locations on Long Island for all users.

2- Also, our Beach Preservation program works to sponsor, participate and encourage those activities that ensure the healthy maintenance of our beaches and barrier islands, such as beach grass plantings.

3- Our Beach Clean-up program works to sponsor, participate and encourage continual beach clean-ups in conjunction with the America Littoral Society. This includes the adoption of Gilgo Beach.

4- But also, Long Island Beach Access Group is known for our Beach Actions program which seeks to encourage and reward proper behavior when enjoying the beaches. This includes following the official rules and regulations of each of the beaches and areas that provide access to those beaches, promoting the “Carry in, Carry out more” philosophy, and in a more informal fashion, instructing people on safe enjoyment of our natural resources.

Remember: it is not LIBAG's intent to take away any existing rights of NYS Beach users. Only to add to them.

LIBAG is honored to work with New York State Park officials, as we continue to connect the Parks to the People.

SPRING BEACH CLEAN UP


 SPRING BEACH CLEAN UP 

Saturday. March 21st 2020  8:30 - 12:00

The Long Island Beach Access Group is pleased to announce that we will participate in this year’s Spring Beach Clean Up with
LIBBA, The Long Island Beach Buggy Association 
Scouts and kids are encouraged to attend. LIBBA will provide Environmental Patches for them and can sign-off on High School Volunteer time sheets.

This years ambitious project will include Clean Up’s at 
Robert Moses, Gilgo State Park, & Sore Thumb within Robert Moses State Park.

In addition to the Spring Clean Up, there will be Bird Fencing and beach road projects.

WE will meet at the Robert Moses 2 Parking lot at 8:30 AM.
From here we can decide who will drive into the park and who will travel by foot from RM2 westward. 
DO NOT DRIVE ON THE BEACH UNLESS YOU ARE FULLY PERMITTED. And have ALL the proper equipment.

We will be working alongside LIBBA as well as several other groups. This event was a great success last year. Let’s keep up the tradition of everyone working together to keep our shared beaches in tip top shape.

I cannot stress how important it is to have as many Surfers, Windsurfers, Stand Up Padleboarders, Fishermen, & 4X4 Beach users as we can to show up at this clean up.

THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT WE SHOW UP, AT ROBERT MOSES PARKING FIELD 2. Some time between 8:30 and 12. 

You don’t have to be at the whole event. Just show up. 

Even if just for a little while. Every little bit helps. Even an hour will help. 
Bring as many friends as you can.Your spouses, ex spouses, your kids, people you find on the street… anyone! 
Every person means a lot. Thank you so much in advance.

Dress appropriately for the day. Stay on the beach. Stay off the dunes. We will provide latex gloves and trash bags. 

I recommend long pants, sturdy shoes , & leather work gloves you can get dirty in, if you have them.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate, and am looking forward to seeing everyone there. I cannot thank you enough.
Food will be served after the event  at Robert Moses Field 2.

March 31st is the last day you can purchase a 4x4 Surfing/Windsurfing or 4X4 Fishing Dashboard Permit. No exceptions!
